Associate Research Engineer - Power Systems

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) Infrastructure Defense seeks a talented individual for a power-focused Research Engineer position. The work we perform is some of the most fascinating, challenging, and rewarding that can be found in the power engineering community. Note: United States Citizenship is required.
As a Research Engineer, a typical day might include the following:
- Researching power systems phenomena.
- EMTP Modeling (ATPDraw, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Hardware-in-the-loop testing (RTDS, OPAL-RT, Typhoon HIL).
- Assisting in designing, prototyping, and documenting technologies for applications in SEL products or solutions.
- Assisting engineers in research and writing new ideas and functional specifications.
- Conduct on-site demonstrations and presentations to customers and key stakeholders.
This job might be for you if:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
- You have knowledge in power system analysis, power system protection, and power system stability.
- You are willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
- You are a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Product development experience.
- Knowledge of electric power system protection and control, or automation applications.
- Knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology and protective relay. applications.
- Demonstrated excellent writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.

Pay Range Data
We anticipate filling this position as an Associate Research Engineer: $90,000 — $122,900. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
