The EMEA Indirect Tax Compliance Transformation Lead will report to the Global Indirect Tax Compliance Lead. This is a hands-on operational and transformation role responsible for supporting indirect tax compliance across EMEA in a co-sourced model and helping shape a more centralised, standardised, data-driven and technology-enabled tax function. This role focuses on change: planning and delivering the EMEA indirect tax transformation roadmap, leading process transitions, solving systemic issues and building operational excellence across the region.
The successful candidate will act as the connecting point between Tax, Finance, Technology, business teams and the external service provider, turning improvement ideas into structured projects with clear scope, owners, timelines and measurable benefits, and making sure that changes are adopted and sustained in the target operating model.
Responsibilities will include:
Transformation & Change Management
- Plan and coordinate Indirect Tax Compliance transformation initiatives, keeping plans, risks, issues and decisions up to date and escalating where needed.
- Support transformation governance, including updates, workstream check-ins and status reporting, to enable timely decisions and clear accountability.
- Carry out structured current-state assessments across EMEA (e.g. process maturity, effort, error rates, control gaps, manual touchpoints) to support centralising, standardising, simplifying or automating activities, and help prioritise initiatives by value, risk and effort.
- Coordinate internal transitions of compliance activities using a structured approach, including readiness checks, knowledge transfer, documentation, dry runs, cutover planning and post-go-live support.
- Support change management including impact assessments and stakeholder, communication and readiness plans, so that stakeholders understand what is changing, why, and what is expected of them.
- Maintain standard process documentation (e.g. process maps, desktop procedures, control matrices) and develop practical training and knowledge materials, helping ensure that clear ownership, controls and audit trails remain in place through process changes.
- Support the build-out and development of the in-house analyst team, including onboarding plans, skills matrices, knowledge transfer and capacity planning aligned with the transition roadmap.
- Conduct post-implementation reviews and capture lessons learned.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Help develop and maintain the EMEA indirect tax compliance governance framework - including RACI, process standards, KPIs, SLAs and performance dashboards - giving regional Compliance Lead and Tax leadership clear visibility of process health, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Support improvement plans, scope changes and the onboarding of new activities, while regional Compliance Lead manages day-to-day compliance interactions.
- Use operational data, SLA and KPI trends and root cause analysis to identify recurring and cross-country issues (e.g. reconciliation differences, tax code errors, master data gaps), support permanent fixes rather than repeated manual corrections, and follow up on corrective actions through to closure.
- Build and maintain a prioritised continuous improvement pipeline focused on standardisation, simplification, automation, control effectiveness and reduction of manual work, and confirm that improvements are sustained.
- Support audit readiness across EMEA by promoting consistent approaches to supporting documentation and data retention, and by using lessons learned from tax audits and authority queries to improve processes and controls.
- Explore and help pilot new technology opportunities (e.g. analytics, RPA, AI-based tools), including innovations offered by service providers, and support the scaling of proven solutions across EMEA.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Business; a relevant tax or project management qualification is an advantage.
- Solid experience in EMEA indirect tax compliance, ideally within a multinational manufacturing, distribution or supply chain-driven environment.
- Practical experience in tax process transformation, migration, operating model change or continuous improvement, ideally supporting initiatives from assessment through implementation and stabilisation.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional projects or workstreams, including planning, tracking progress, managing risks and reporting status.
- Experience working in or with outsourced and(or) shared service compliance providers.
- Practical experience with ERP and tax technology solutions (e.g. SAP, tax engines, compliance tools, workflow or data analytics).
- Solid understanding of transactional data flows, controls and reconciliations relevant to indirect tax reporting.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- High attention to detail with the ability to work at transaction level while maintaining an end-to-end process perspective.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on root cause resolution and measurable outcomes.
- Strong Excel and data skills; experience with tools such as Power BI, Alteryx or similar is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities in a deadline-driven, multi-country environment.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to connect tax, finance, process and technology perspectives and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Practical change management skills, including stakeholder engagement, training, adoption support and clear documentation.
- Proactive, organised and process-oriented mindset, with curiosity about technology and new ways of working.
