Full-time NYC Metro / Project Sites M–F, Day Shift Apply Now About the RoleRehab and Design is a self-perform contractor renovating multifamily and public-housing units across the NYC metro area, largely in occupied buildings. We are hiring experienced Tile Setters to install floor and wall tile in kitchens and bathrooms to a high, durable standard — including proper substrate prep and waterproofing.
Key Responsibilities- prepare and level substrates; install backer board and waterproofing/membrane systems in wet areas.
- lay out, cut, and set floor and wall tile — ceramic, porcelain, and stone — with correct patterns, spacing, and slopes.
- mix and apply thinset and mortar; grout, seal, and caulk to a clean finished result.
- install metallic trim, edge profiles, and transition strips to a clean, straight finish.
- read plans and finish schedules and confirm tile layout with the foreman before setting.
- operate wet saws and tile tools safely; maintain tools and equipment.
- keep occupied work areas clean, protected, and safe; work to punch-list quality standards.
- 3+ years of professional tile-setting experience in floors and walls.
- Knowledge of waterproofing and substrate prep for wet areas (showers, bathrooms, kitchens).
- Skilled with wet saws, trowels, levels, and layout tools; able to produce clean, straight, durable work.
- OSHA 10 (OSHA 30 preferred) and, for NYC sites, a valid SST card (or ability to obtain).
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Experience in occupied multifamily or public-housing (NYCHA) renovation.
- Stone and large-format tile experience.
- References (personal and professional).
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel and crouch for extended periods, stand, bend, and work on your feet throughout the shift, with appropriate personal protective equipment.
